Papillion La Vista’s Dylan Utter Reply
Papillion La Vista’s Dylan Utter has decided to walk on at Nebraska. He will give the good news to coach Cotton when he speaks with him later tonight or tomorrow.
The 6-3, 300-pounder will play offensive center or guard at NU.

Lincoln Southwest’s Brandon Reilly Reply
Lincoln Southwest’s Brandon Reilly will be walking on at Nebraska.
The 6-2, 180-pounder was given the option of playing on offense or defense, and he chose offense.
“It went really good,” Reilly said about the gathering. “I will be playing wide receiver. They said that they liked my playmaking ability.”
Of his nine touchdowns as a senior, eight were for at least 50 yards: two receiving, three rushing, one pick six, two by punt return, and one by kickoff return.

Two walk-on candidates taking further visits Reply
Lincoln Southeast’s Trey Foster was asked to walk on and he was told by the Husker staff that he could project to a variety of position for them including TE, DE, FB and short snapper.
The 6-3, 225-pounder said that the meeting “went well and I learned a lot about the walk-on tradition.” He added that “it definitely upped my interest in Nebraska.”
Foster plans to officially visit Southeast Missouri State on Jan. 20, and then he’ll decide from among Nebraska, Southeast Missouri State, Ohio and South Dakota State.
Kearney kicker Spencer Lindsay was asked to walk on at Nebraska by coaches John Papuchis and Barney Cotton, and he is seriously considering it.
“I thought it went really well,” Lindsay said about the meeting in Lincoln. “All in all it was a really good day.”
Lindsay will be officially visiting Northwest Missouri State (offer) on Wednesday and North Dakota State on Saturday. He said he should have a final decision shortly after that.

Re: Preferred walk-on candidates thread (Updated 3:52 pm Monday) Reply
I talked with Omaha Burke offensive coordinator Dan Jackson this afternoon and he told me that fullback/running back Carson Collins has accepted a walk-on offer from Nebraska. Collins is a 5-foot-11, 220 pound “big back” that put up big numbers this year.
Jackson also said both linebacker Mitch McCann and running back Jordan Nelson have been offered walk-on spots by Nebraska and they are looking hard at taking them.
Nelson wants a few more days to make up his mind, while McCann is deciding between NU and South Dakota State.
As for some of Burke’s other prospects, offensive lineman James Anderson is looking hard at committing to Minnesota Mankato, wide receiver Zach Oliver is weighing some FCS options or possibly going the JUCO route and offensive lineman Hunter Greer is figuring out his academic situation before deciding his future plans.

Grand Island ATH Sam Foltz Reply
Grand Island athlete Sam Foltz took an official visit to Nebraska Sunday through Monday, and his time in Lincoln convinced him that he would play his college ball in Nebraska, starting off as a preferred walk-on.
The 6-2, 190-pound Foltz chose to play for NU over offers from South Dakota State, South Dakota, UNK and Northwest Missouri State.
I’ll have his full update up tonight.

Re: Preferred walk-on candidates thread (Updated 8:15 pm Monday) Reply
I confirmed tonight that Omaha Burke running back Jordan Nelson will join his backfield mate Carson Collins as a walk-on on this class.
Nelson rushed for a Burke school record 1,791 yards to go along with 21 touchdowns and was a unanimous All-Nebraska and Super State selection at running back by both the OWH and the LJS.
“Nebraska likes me as a running back, slot receiver and a possible return guy on special teams,” Nelson said. “It was really an easy decision for me to pick Nebraska.”
Nelson said he chose the Huskers over offers from Augustana, Wayne State, Nebraska-Kearney, Morningside and North Dakota.

Just caught up with Howells (Neb.) offensive lineman Jordan Brichacek, who currently is committed to South Dakota State. Brichacek was at NU’s walk-on day on Sunday, and said he’s currently weighing the pros and cons of walking on to Nebraska vs. taking a 75 percent scholarship to SDSU.
“I’m still committed to South Dakota State,” Brichacek said. “Right now I’m weighing my options and really deciding what I want to do.
“I definitely like the coaches and the players and just the overall atmosphere at South Dakota State. At Nebraska though, it’s a lot closer to home and playing at the highest level is something that really intrigues me. I hope to know something soon.”
This would be a huge get for Nebraska, as Brichacek possesses major upside and is somewhat of an unknown because he played at the Eight Man level.

Make it eight official confirmed walk-ons now for Nebraska. Wahoo (Neb.) Bishop Neumann wide receiver/athlete Cole Chvatal just confirmed to me that he’ll be walking on to Nebraska.
The 6-foot, 185 pound Chvatal informed the coaches of his decision to walk-on last night.
“It was between walking on to Nebraska or going to Drake,” Chvatal said. “Nebraska offered me a walk-on spot in December, so I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I’m very excited about my decision.”
As a senior Chvatal had 131 carries for 1,192 yards and 21 touchdowns, to go along with 27 catches for 400 yards and five more touchdowns in 10 games. Defensively, he finished with 106 tackles, six quarterback sacks, 15 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Chvatal was a unanimous all-state Class C-1 selection by both major newspapers.

HuskerOnline.com has confirmed the ninth walk-on of Nebraska’s 2012 recruiting class. Omaha (Neb.) Burke linebacker Mitch McCann told me today he made up his mind and he’ll follow his two teammates fullback Carson Collins and running back Jordan Nelson to Lincoln.
“I made up my mind today,” McCann said. “With Jordan and Carson already going there it made my decision that much easier.”
McCann racked up over 125 total tackles for the Bulldogs and was named second team All-Metro by the Omaha World Herald. He also played tight end and finished the year with two receiving touchdowns.
“This is a pretty special group,” Bulldog head coach Paul Limongi said of his trio heading down to Lincoln. “They won a lot of football games here and I’m glad they’ll be able to stay together down at Lincoln.”

I just confirmed with Dave Nabity, the father of Elkhorn running back Graham Nabity that his son will be walking on to Nebraska.
The first team All-State and second team All Nebraska running back chose the Huskers over a near full ride offer to South Dakota State. He was a critical part of the the Antlers winning the Class B state championship and finished the season with 1,532 yards rushing on 239 carries to go along with a Class B high 24 touchdowns.
With Nabity’s walk-on commitment NU now has four very solid running backs coming in this year’s class. Along with Nabity, Lee’s Summit (Mo.) running back King Frazier and Burke running backs Carson Collins and Jordan Nelson will all walk-on to Nebraska.

Aurora (Neb.) offensive lineman Garret Johns told HuskerOnline.com on Friday morning that he’s officially decided to take a walk-on invitation from Nebraska after visiting NU and meeting with the coaches on Thursday.
“It really was a pretty easy decision for me,” Johns said. “It was one of those things if I didn’t do it I was always going to wonder if I could. Plus, with guys like Tyson (Broekemeier) and Andrew (Rodriguez) there it helped me make my decision and understand what the program is all about.”
The 6-foot-1.5, 270 pounds Johns will come to Nebraska as a center/guard prospect. Johns was a first team All-State selection each of the last two seasons for the Huskies. Johns was also the Class B state champion heavyweight wrestler as a junior and currently sits No. 1 and undefeated on the mat this year.
Johns also told me this morning that he’s officially accepted an invite to play in the Shrine Bowl. Elkhorn running back and NU walk-on commit Graham Nabity also told me he’s accepted a Shrine Bowl invite. Looks like most of the top kids will be playing this year with the earlier June 2 start date.

We just confirmed that Jared Blum from Gretna (Neb.), has decided to walk on at Nebraska.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pounder turned down nearly full scholarships from South Dakota State, UNK and Northwest Missouri State to play for NU.
The Husker coaches told Jared that he could be either a tight end or defensive end for them.

Kearney High kicker Spencer Lindsay Reply
Kearney High kicker Spencer Lindsay just called and said that he has decided to walk on at Nebraska.
“Yeah, we came to our decision late last night and early this morning,” Lindsay explained. “It was a really tough choice, and it came down to Northwest Missouri State and Nebraska, but Nebraska’s facilities and coaching tipped things in their favor.
“Jake Wesch, who helps coaching there, is a former kicker himself, so he’ll be able to help me with my technique and form. And then Brett (Maher) and Kyle Larson gave me good feedback about going there.”
As a senior, Lindsay was a perfect 33/33 on PATs as a senior and he was 6/9 on field goals with a long of 44 yards.

Grand Island’s Ryker Fyfe Reply
Grand Island, Neb., quarterback Ryker Fyfe chose to walk-on with the Huskers and announced his decision on Monday with Doug & Daddy on ESPN 1460 in Kearney. He chose to walk-on over accepting a scholarship to Division II Nebraska-Kearney. Fyfe said that he “always wanted to be a Husker.”
As a senior Fyfe passed for 1,921 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air and had 116 carries for 746 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
His favorite receiving target was Sam Foltz, who announced earlier this week he’ll walk-on to Nebraska. Foltz finished the season with 39 receptions for 686 yards and 10 touchdowns.

HuskerOnline.com confirmed the 15th walk-on recruit for Nebraska on Monday evening. Oakland-Craig (Neb.) head coach Joe Anderson told us that his all-state linebacker/fullback Taylor Hoffman gave his walk-on commit to NU on Monday evening.
“(He) just got off the phone with Barney Cotton and has accepted his walk-on invitation,” Anderson said in an email. “Taylor is a 6-1, 200 pound fullback/linebacker. He chose NU over South Dakota State and Wayne State.”
As a senior Hoffman had 83 carries for 717 yards and 14 touchdowns, to go along with 50 solo and 38 assisted tackles on defense. Oakland-Craig made it to the Class C-2 quarterfinals with a 10-1 record.

Many of these walkons will play, not because of their talent level, but because of the weak recruiting done by Bo and his staff. There is a reason that third and three is a passing down; our offensive line is pathetic and our receivers
have stone fingers on the few passes that Martinez can actually get within 5 feet of them.
Did Barney Cotton marry Bo’s sister? How does he keep his job? Without David, can anyone on next year’s team tackle?

Two years ago, Millard South’s Bronson Marsh and
Tyler Evans of Waverly signed with the Huskers.
They have not seen the field and they were dominant players in high school. Now we have Bo
recruiting players away from UNK, Wayne,Ft Hays
and NW Missouri St, and he says this is his best group of walkons ever. It looks like some
token Nebraskans who may beef up the team GPA and stick it out until they are announced as seniors and the fans ask “Who’s he??”
Will Cummings
February 9, 2012 @ 5:42 pm
I hear you but Bo is not recruiting players away from UNK , Wayne State and the rest.
Nebraska high school kids have been dreaming about NU long before Bo ever even thought about becoming a coach.
Nope. NU is still a very mighty draw that is just reality.
Anyway football is just a game and the odds of anyone continuing to play the game after college is ridiculously low.
Only about half of the walk-ons from a particular class will make it all the way to graduation at NU. About 3 or 4 of those will see playing time maybe even 1 or 2 will start somewhere along the way.
So what if some of them never get to play. Getting that diploma is what matters!
If walk-ons can endure that four or five year struggle and still earn a degree – hats off to them tough hombres!
Moreover, those that survive will be set for life if they play their cards right while on campus.
