Poll: Pick Winners of Class A & B State Football Finals (poll located at top right inner sidebar.)
Class A
Millard high school football teams continue to dominate Class A football in the state of Nebraska. And what’s even more emphatic is that, in recent years, the Millard Public School System has turned the Class A football state finals into their own private party.
The last two years we have seen Class A state football finals featuring Millard South vs. Millard West. This year No. 5 seed Millard North squeezed by No.1 Omaha Burke for the second time this season to land a spot in the finals against Millard South. The Patriots will be trying for back-to-back state championship titles.
Are the Millard school district football programs further increasing their dominance over the rest of Class A or are we just in a cycle—a bad one for anyone not playing for a Millard school?
Whatever the answer to that question is—it will not discount the fact that the Patriot vs. Mustang 2010 state finals matchup looks like an exciting game that could go down to the wire. Their regular season meeting this season was one of the better high school games I’ve seen played. Millard North won that game 21-16 but they had to rely on a several Patriot miscues to pull out the victory. After watching that game– it does not surprise me in the least that the 2010 Class A crown comes down to these two fine teams.

Class B
The battle of the unbeatens goes to Crete, with their 15-12 nail biter over Aurora. We will never know what the result of this game would have been if the state’s best passing QB Tyson Broekemeier had played. Broekemeier was still ailing from a concussion he suffered in the first half of last week’s quarterfinal game against McCook. The Cardinals will face the Elkhorn Antlers for the Class B state finals. The Antlers blew past Blair on Saturday by the tune of 28-7.
