Since his freshman year, South Sioux City High’s Mike Gesell, has been considered by most analyst to be the No.1 high school basketball prospect in Nebraska.  The quiet and unassuming 6-foot, 165lbs shooting guard currently holds seven D-1 offers (Nebraska, Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Iowa State Northern Iowa, Utah). And he has also lived up to the tremendous hype bestowed upon him before he even played his first high school basketball game. Last season, as sophomore, Gesell averaged 19.2 points while leading his team to the Class B state title.

Gesell is without doubt an outstanding elite basketball player, but with last year’s arrival of freshman Akoy Agau, a 6-foot-8, 215lbs forward out of Omaha Central, is Gesell still the No. 1 high school basketball prospect in Nebraska?

Last year, the long-framed Sudanese native showed flashes of D-1 potential throughout the regular season.  By the time the state playoffs arrived, It was obvious to many that Agau had developed into a basketball player to keep tabs on. Akoy Agau then went on to established himself as an elite prospect with his monster performance during the Eagles’ Class A state finals win. Currently holding six D-1 offers (Nebraska, Creighton, Colorado State, Indiana State, Marquette and New Mexico), Agau is projected by some analyst to be the top prospect in the nation from the class of 2013.
