Thomas Hodges and Maia Reynolds Sweep Boys & Girls 100 and 200 Meter Sprints

|  May 6, 2009, Metro Track & Field Championships Day 2—Omaha Central sophomore LaQue Moen- Davis steals the show by setting a new All-Class State record in the triple jump. On her third attempt, Davis covered 40-feet-6.5 inches, a distance 1 inch further than the previous mark set in 1999 by Jaime Volkmer of Kearney Catholic. Maia Reynolds of Benson looked impressive winning the girls 100 meter in 12.26 even after a poor start. Later in the evening, Reynolds proved to everyone that her speed is for real when she posted an even more impressive time of 25.10 in the 200, while taking out the likes of Moen-Davis and freshman phenom Clara Nichols. A healthy Reynolds is going to be hard to beat in either race come state time—she looks that good! Kelli Bud picked up her third individual gold of the meet by winning the 1600 in the time of 5:15.11.   North’s Thomas Hodges now has all eyes turned on him as the man to beat. The junior out-dueled the top Class A sprinters to win the 100 and 200 meter sprints. Unfortunately for North, Radell Naredpulled-up in the 100 at about the 75 meter mark—where he was dead even with Hodges. Because of the injury, Nared scratched out of the 200. Burke’s Jake Marousek—the favorite to win the 200–came in third behind Michael Burrus—a competitor he has beaten decisively all year long. Marousek is just not running like he did early on in the season—he just seems too tight and it’s costing him. Last year’s Sprint King, Kohlman Adema-Schulte, continues to strugglethrough his injury problems. It’s quite evident that he can’t hold top gear very long. He and Nared will only have a couple of weeks to heal up before the big show and Morousek and the rest of the healthy hunters will only have the same amount of time to figure out what they must do to catch their prey. Central’s 400 relay executed brilliantly while burning up the Burke Stadium track with a meet record time of 42.18. Central also took: the boys high jump with Deverell Biggs’ pop of 6-6; long jump with Ted Lampkin’s leap of 22-11 and Chris Reed took the shot put with a heave of 59-5.
