Hot Nebraska H.S. Athletes: GICC’s Turner Fahey Brings down the House
Latest Football Recruiting News: Derek Chancellor Commits to South Dakota
On January 14th, McCook High School’s Derek Chancellor, a 6-foot-5-inch , 290 pound class of 2011 O-lineman, verbally committed to the University of South Dakota.
In addition to reporting offers from D-1AA North Dakota and South Dakota State, the big fella also says Husker football coach Barney Cotton called on “numerous” occasions to offer him a preferred walk-on opportunity at Nebraska. Chancellor says he “seriously” considered the chance to play at NU but eventually settled on attending USD and suiting up for the Coyotes. Chancellor is currently MHN’s No. 11 ranked Top 25 Prospect.

Grand Island Central Catholic’s Turner Fahey is lighting up the scoreboard in a big way this season! The 6-foot senior shooting guard has bumped up his junior season point per game average from a sizzling 19 to a net-burning 28 ppg this year. Along the way, Fahey recently recorded back-to-back 40 point games: 40 against David City Aquinas Catholic ( Jan 14) and 41 versus York (Jan 14). The budding star player also poured in another 36 against Aurora on January 8th. The Crusaders are currently 13-0 and ranked No.2 in Class C-1. Turner’s father, Randy Fahey, says Turner was (and is) getting looks from a lot of small regional colleges, but now he has begun drawing interest from some D-1 programs as well. “His [Tuner’s] phone has been texting off-the-hook from coaches and players after putting up back-to-back 40’s,” Randy said. No doubt that should be the case because Turner is also a pretty good defensive player too. The ability of a prospect to commit on the defensive side of the ball is a quality that oftentimes separates a legit high school prospect from a good high school player. MHN currently has Turner Fahey listed No. 12 in our 2010-2011 Early-Season Top 25 Nebraska High School Basketball Prospects ranking. But look for Fahey to make a jump into the Top Ten when our Midseason Top 25 is released next Monday (January 24).
