Rumors: Bo Pelini to Interview for Miami Job
Blowing hard through Husker Nation are the winds of change: Nebraska leaves the Big 12 and now sources say head coach Bo Pelini may be looking for greener pastures or shall I say the graceful palms trees of Miami.
According to my sources, Nebraska Athletic Director Dr. Tom Osborne recently gave Pelini permission to speak to the Hurricanes about the coaching vacancy created when they fired Randy Shannon two weeks ago. Pelini has only been at Nebraska for two years and if the rumors are true—he is already seeking other opportunities.
This of course could all just be in line with the nature of big business college football these days, but it may also have to do with what’s been going down with the Husker football program during the past two weeks.
We all know, by now, about the Bo Pelini Tirade at Texas A&M and the Huskers recent loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game. Those are hard things for any coach or team to swallow, but there is also a strong undercurrent of disillusionment cutting its way through the team as a result of what went down with Taylor Martinez during and immediately after the Texas A&M game and in the Big 12 title game.
A lot of unsettled business, a lot of questions and for some–a lot or respect has been lost. But those are stories for another day. Right now I will simply close by saying,
“It’s not a fun time to be a Husker.”

randy shannon has done a very nice job of cleaning up miami’s image… and people need to recognize and give credit to him for doing so. unfortunately, he is no longer the coach there, and it will be interesting to see to whom miami turns…

These rumors need to stop. Name your source and give this garbage some authenticity besides “sources” and/or your assertion that they are “good sources” and “I trust them”, or the infamous “if you only knew who they were you would believe what the say” that is the usual drivel of tripe like this. If you cannot name your source then he/she does not really exist and you are doing nothing more than trying to get a rise out of people, which I guess you did in my case. I just really despise things like this that get people all worked up and then ultimately end up being totally false, or at best only partially true. If this is the only way that you can get readers to your site by posting unsupported and/or unsubstantiated rumors than perhaps you do not need to be writing. How hard would it be to pick up the telephone and verify the rumor, or not. Leave it alone PLEASE! I am tired of all this conjecture and rumor mill. It is doing more harm than good. Leave it alone!!!

Pelini is getting close to be named the ‘Canes HC. He does not get along with Tommy O. and feels that he is not getting the respect he deserves from the ‘Huskers administration (after the Martinez issue after the A&M game. Lets face it where would you rather live in chily, boring Lincoln or in vibrant, sunny Miami.

After speaking with some sources and seeing some documents I can confirm this to be true. Gus Malzahn will be his OC and Bud Foster is finally leaving Virginia Tech to be his DC.

Fellows I KNOW I’m right. Pelini will be hired by Miami within the next 2 or 3 days. They have agreed on money, improvement of athletic facilities and recruiting perks that Shannon did not have. Minor details and attorney jiberish is being worked on as I type. It may not be formally announced until after the Bowl game.(If Dr. Tommy O. agrees)

I have just heard from reliable sources that there is a 50-50 chance Bob Stoops may wind up as HC of Florida Gaytors to replace the retiring Urbam Lier. If so Mullen (Miss St.) will be the favorite to replace him at OU. WOWEE as the coaching carousel turns huh.

Hey Frank, things are not much different than when you left: Rumors are flying and leadership is circling the wagons.
In attempting to sort all this out, folks just need to read in between the lines at what Nebraska officials are saying and who is saying it and when it is being said. Also,
note what is not being said.
Then, make sure to take into account what the Miami papers and their sources are saying.
OK. Someone is not telling the whole truth. And that’s alright because that’s just how these things are.
Will Pelini stay at Nebraska? The last couple of days he is reported to say he will. That is what he should say at this point–like most coaches do in these situations. However, some head coaches have been known to move on– even after the most sincerest pronouncements to their team and the media and fans that they will not leave.
Here is the moral to this story: Bo Pelini is a damn hot commodity and he will be at the top of the list for most coaching vacancies. Bo Pelini has become a SUPERSTAR. So Husker fans get used to the drama that comes with Pelini’s new found fame.

Well said Dick. I totally agree with you. This weekend Miami AD Kirby Holcutt will meet with BO, Al Golden of Temple, and and Mark Trestman, of the Canadian league Champions Montreal Alouttes and decide on the Coach–Bo is the favorite but who knows.
WG Ghandi if you should wake up with a mess in your belly you will know what happened. No excuses please.

My sources were right on the money as usual, but there is so much more going on at Nebraska. However, right now, this Miami thing is what has everyone ducking for cover. Not even Bo knows for sure what he will do. He may just stay like he said or he could wind up somewhere besides Miami. Whatever, Husker fans definitely shouldn’t count on him being a long-timer.
Here are few interesting excerpts from the Lincoln Journal Star in regards to this issue:
The Miami Herald reported that Pelini received permission from the University of Nebraska to speak with Miami officials. Pelini responded that night by saying he “doesn’t address rumor and innuendo.”
“But the Florida Sun Sentinel fueled more speculation when it reported via two sources that Hocutt had already spoken to Pelini about the job, but had not offered it to him.”
Asked Wednesday night about The Miami Herald report, Osborne said, “Bo’s never talked to me about anything like that. If he got permission (to talk to Miami), he didn’t get it from me.”That last part of his statement is more than a little weird don’t you think? After a two week very thorough search Miami thought that Al Golden was a better fit than Bo.(although both are outstanding young coaches with a very bright future) However, rest asured that the two finalist were Golden and Pelini. They both really wanted the job. Who knows where Bo will be next year but I would bet my house that Bo WILL NOT be at Nebraska in December 2012. Enjoy the freezing weather and if any of you wake up one morning with a messy belly (including Dr. Tommy)–NO EXCUSES PPLLEEEEAAASSSEEE.
