So Long Coach Jaworski

The all-time winningest coach in the history of Nebraska high school football has coached his last game, a 14-21 state quarterfinal playoff loss to Millard South on November 5th, 2010.

After 39 years at the helm of Creighton Prep Football, Tom Jaworski leaves the game with a remarkable 343-92 win loss record and 9 state championship titles.

Thanks Coach for your yeoman efforts in helping to elevate the game of high school football in Nebraska.

Class A Playoff Recap & Outlook

Burke’s Jimmie Forsythe rolls again with 3 TDs against Columbus to help propel the Bulldogs to a Class A state football playoff semifinal against Millard North–the only team to beat Burke this season. This semi-final has all the makings of a classic. I just hope that next Saturday’s playoff action is more competitive than what we saw Friday night in the Class A & B quarterfinals.

Quentin Urban continues to come up big in the playoffs for Millard South, this time scoring the winnig TD and rushing for 158 on 12 carries. The Patriots will be going for their third consecutive state finals appearance and  back-to-back state titles. But to do it they will first have to get by a very tough Lincoln Southeast squad that looks extremely determined and capable of winning it all.

The four best 2010 teams in Class A remain: Burke, Millard North, Millard South, and Lincoln Southeast. It’s a pick ’em as to which team will eventually walkaway with the 2010 Class A championship trophy. This year’s state class A finals could be a thriller reminiscent of one of my all-time favorites–the  2007 Millard North vs. Central championship game. That game was not only exciting  it was also a showcase for Millard North’s Sean Fisher who provided one of the most gutsy individual performances in Class A state football championship history.

Class B Playoff Recap & Outlook

Elkhorn blasted the  No. 1 seed Boys Town Cowboys on Friday. Their previous two years in Class A  is something that I believe only further toughened a great football program. Therefore, I favor the Antlers to slip past their No. 2 seed semi-final opponent Blair–if they can manage to slow down Bear leading rusher Ryan Randall.

Aurora vs. Crete. Both teams easily disposed of their quarterfinal opponents, leaving the the two perennial powerhouse football programs still undefeated in 2010. Something will have to give come Saturday! A deciding factor may be the answer to the question “will Aurora’s superstar QB Tyson Broekemeir be ready to play?”  Broekemeir left  Friday’s game, before halftime, with an injury after falling on his head. Even a solid and deep team like the Huskies will find it very difficult to get by an equally good Crete team without the state’ leading passer.
