Hot Athletes Inside
Papio South junior Laura Brown is all smiles after running 100 meter all-class season leading time of 12.10.
April 23, 2009, Dennis Smith Invitational… Papillion-La Vista South’s Laura Brown ran away from everyone on her way to 12.10 100 meter victory. Brown’s mark is the fastest girls 100 meter time this season. The junior Titan ran very smooth and showed outstanding form from start to finish. If Brown stays healthy and consistent she will be wearing all-class 100 meter gold come late May.
Brown’s, teammate, Michael Burrus, also put in quite a show in the 100, turning in a superb time of 10.58—the fastest Class A time this season and a PR for Burrus. Burke’s Jake Marousek continues to set PRs in the 200: He blazed his way to a 21.60. The time was just shy of Boys Town’s Tim Thompson’s season best mark of 21.50.
April 23, Harold Scott Invitational….Oooh! This track meet, held in Lincoln, was the place to be at if you wanted to see a lot of big time marks and outstanding performances. But let’s start with this one: “WHO IS MORGAN WOITZEL?” Let me tell you--She is another freshman girl phenom from Millard South. Woitzel ran a 57.20 400 meter—the fastest time this year. Woitzel--by just a tenth of a second--squeezed by her—FRESHMAN--teammate, Clara Nichols, to win the event. What are the Millard South track coaches feeding these freshman girls?
Here are the rest of the season marks set down in Lincoln: Omaha Central’s Deverell Biggs and Lincoln North Star’s Dillon Schrodt tied at 6-10 in the high jump. Man, these two are going to put on a show at state! Millard South’s Zach Vickers runs a 49.2 400; Evan Herring adds to his leading triple mark with a hop of 46-11.75; Lincoln East’s Jay Kilpatrick tops 15-3 in the pole vault; Sam Housh of Lincoln North Star lowers his PR to 14.37 in the 110 highs; LaQue Moen-Davis floats to a 19-6 long jump-- third best all-time mark , which moves her ahead of former season leader Bethany DeLong’s mark of 19-5.
Relay season highs were set by: Westside boys’ 3:24.66 in the 1600; Omaha North girls spank a 49.07 400; 4:03.55 1600 time is turned in by. Millard South girls.
Now that was a track meet!
The weather is heating up and so are the athletes—There looks to be some pretty good showdowns coming up and maybe even some historic all-time marks to be had. This a very good year for Nebraska high school track.

Quentin Urban, ATH, (5-10, 190) Millard South H.S. Class of 2011.
A First Team All-State performer as a LB, Urban was just as deadly on offense--accounting for 22 touchdowns for the 2009 Class A State Football Champion Millard South Patriots.
